The Bernini project: 2009

With my new studio space done, I've gotten back to the clay reproduction of Pope Gregory after almost a year of having it in storage. Working on both the digital and clay versions simultaneously is a very cool experience - each provides unique approaches I'm finding benefit the other.

The Bernini Project - update

Due to lack of work space I haven't been able to work on the Pope Gregory XV reproduction project for close to a year. But now that my new studio is done I'm going to attempt to finish up this project ASAP! Below is the other planned part of this project - a companion digital version of the same piece that Ive been working for about a month.

Details sculpted separately then applied to the torso:

New digital sculpt - Old man #3 update

I'm in the middle of a 10 week traditional portrait sculpture class at LAAFA thats being taught by David Simon. I thought I'd start applying some of what I'm learning to a digital sculpt, so I'm doing another old man sculpt.

Bernini Update: November

Still moving along with this in my spare time. A lot of detail blocked out in the torso since the last update. Hoping to finish this year, still so much to do.... (click to see more shots).

Bernini reproduction work-in-progress

This is an update on a project I've been working on for a while (when time permits). It is a reproduction of Bernini's sculpture of Pope Gregory XV. I am working from photographs found in the Christies auction catalogue and online. I spent quite a bit of time getting the portrait and head shape to the point where I am happy with it and have now started some of the more intricate relief work on the clothing(left). I started the project hoping to capture the subtle nature of the facial expression in Bernini's original and to try my hand at the more ornate detail work in the clothing. I still have a long way to go, but am pleased with this piece so far.

Mucinex!!

What a fun gig this was. I was responsible for about 95% of the modeling (characters, props, environment & blendshapes). The first of two national spots produced by Rhythm & Hues were shipped last week - look for it soon on a TV screen near you!

Update: Both spots have shipped and are currently airing nationally.

2006: Rhythm & Hues Studios Inc

I've been employed at Rhythm & Hues Studios in Los Angeles since the beginning of 2006 as a Modeling TD. My gig is modeling animals, digital doubles for actors as well as some environment and prop work. The films that I have worked & am working on are: Night at the Museum; Superman Returns; Evan Almighty; and The Golden Compass: His Dark Materials.

I also just finished a great cartoon project for a national ad campaign (2 spots) that will air this fall. I was responsible for just about all the character, environment and prop modeling. I've been watching the dailies and everything really looks great. Once it goes to air I'll post more info
